In some areas Carr was better. In some he was worse. So, like I said, the stats were roughly the same. The difference is the Saints paid about $30M for the same (or SLIGHTLY better) production than what Tampa paid $6M for. And Tampa has the flexibility to walk away from the deal if they don't think the production was all that noteworthy, and/or they don't think the new salary demands are worth it. The Saints are stuck with Carr for at least a few more years.
TB may refuse to meet Mayfield's demands and suck next season. But at least that would put them in position to draft a top QB prospect. The Saints on the other hand appear to be content to remain in purgatory with Carr. Not bad enough to be in position to find a young QB of the future. Not good enough to achieve anything of note with a QB they are paying roughly the same as Josh Allen.
