Mississippi House voted 97-14 to allow sports betting via mobile device, as long as DraftKings, et. al. partners with a Mississippi casino. Expected to bring in $25-$35 million per year.
The Governor's FY25 Budget Proposal Highlights:
1. Implementing the following income tax schedule:
2026: 3%
2027: 2%
2028: 1%
2029: 0%
2. The proposed budget appropriates $30 million to airports, ports, and railways for modernization.
3. Create a Parents' Bill of Rights in education
4. Appropriate $5 million towards a Patriotic Educational Fund. MDE would issue local grants for patriotic educational programming.
5. Governor Tate Reeves wants to increase Capitol Police funding by $10.35 million as its jurisdiction expands this year.
6. The Governor wants to establish a "Women's Bill of Rights." The supporting legislation would recognize and codify the biological differences between men and women.
7. Cut $81 million for higher ed, $37 million for IHL (4 year colleges), $44 million for community colleges

On one hand I don't like this idea. On the other, I'm sure there's $5 million in waste at each state university.
