Hell. When I’m interviewing people and i believe they’re the likely candidate, I ask them if they have any plans that would interfere with their likely start date and I let them know not to sweat it. That way it’s always out in the open.

I’ve even worked with one to schedule his onboarding after a week he took between his last job and this one. Little things like that go a long way to finding and retaining quality employees.

Yep. I've done the same, once we get to the point of discussing start date and such. I want the info more for scheduling training and the rest of the department's schedule around helping the new person get up to speed more than anything else.
