This year in 7 games, Simmons has taken one shot (1!!) outside the paint, and that looked about 13 feet. Missed it, of course.
Look at this link for his shot chart. This is horrific for a ball handler.
And of course he's shooting 25% FTs this year, down from his already horrific 59% career FT percentage.
The guy simply can't shoot, and has now given up on shooting anything except layups. He's a liability at the end in close games, which his 76ers coach basically admitted a couple years ago when Simmons was passing up dunks -- literally.

quote:And yet in the game tonight he made a fabulous touch tip in while off balance. Simmons problem has never been lack of talent. I think the opposite is true. He had such a perfect basketball body and everything came so easy to him that he never had to work hard at his game. This finally caught up to him in the pros. If he had worked on his shot he would probably be one of the greatest point guards the league had ever seen.

The real objection I had to him at LSU was his attitude and finally just quitting playing defense. LSU was constantly receiving negative press because we weren't winning games. It had to be us it couldn't be Ben. He is not a true Tiger because he never wanted to be here in the first place. His father forced him to come here as a favor to an old teammate of his who was an assistant coach.
But time passes and his karma came back to bite him and he has been humiliated in the press time and time again for his lack of scoring and leadership. Enough time has passed that I forgive him for what he did to LSU and actually will support him. After all he was a spoiled 18 year old when he was here and everyone needs a second chance.
