Yea I'm not expecting him to win, I just can't stand him. I mean I dislike him more than Sauron and Saruman

I think the hatred we have for Gollum is dulled by his unique speaking manner and entertaining nuttiness more than any pity.

Maybe it’s just me, but I’ve just never heard anyone hating on Gollum with close to the hate intensity caused by Jar Jar or Delores Umbridge.

For me it's probably because I care more about LOTR than I do Star Wars or Harry Potter. Jar Jar was just a bad part of a bad movie. I've only seen the HP movies once and I honestly couldn't tell you who the Delores Umbridge lady is.

Gollums character is great. And for two movies I don't hate him. But him spreading the bread crumbs to make it look like Sam ate all of it and obviously leading Frodo into a death trap did create some hatred towards him for me. Frodo turning on Sam and having Sam go down the staircase was gut wrenching. So he's on my list.
