As a Republican myself, I'm not exactly thrilled that the Evangelical base gets to dictate Abortion on the Right either. So it works both ways as Republicans refuse to just follow the Mississippi rule of thumb or even "When the Fetus feels pain" and be done with this non-starter red herring issue that the Left goads them into...election after election after election...
after election.
ETA: And just like clock work, I receive a downvote immediately. CASE IN POINT why conservatives/Repubs are fvcked with the boogeyman red-herring of Abortion. Thanks Mr Downvoter(s) for proving my point. Good luck going forward doubling down on Evangelical outdated nonsense especially in the Swing States.

being pro-life is a conservative issue that spans FAR broader than the evangelical base and has been a core issue for decades. this notion that conservatives should abandon a core belief in order to win elections is absolutely crazy to me. what's the point of winning elections if you abandon your beliefs?
we've already been told we had to give up the "one man, one woman" marriage issue and the gays in the military issue - that was a "settled issue" and if we ever wanted to win an election again, we had to soften our position on that. so by and large, conservatives shrugged and decided that fight wasnt worth having and most dont give a frick about it that much anymore. now it's abortion we're being told we need to soften our position on (as if we havent already over the years - we're now having to argue against full term abortions) if we ever want to win another election. we're told over and over we need to soften our position on gun control too if we ever want to win another election.
so if we have to either "soften" or (as is usually the case) completely surrender a core position in order to win elections, what's the point of winning elections?

Please show me where I said "ABANDON"? I cited the Mississippi game plan which is MOVE TO THE MIDDLE not abandoning. Jesus Christ.

Most of the people I have met that support abortion are also against the death penalty for criminals.
I don't understand that logic

Republican candidates going forward need to just say it is the law of the land and they don't have any plans to amend the Constitution to allow for it.

People without any moral compass selling their soul to the "whore of Babylon".

quote:No shite. It’s like, “How many abortions have you had you fricking whore to where that’s the most important issue you have. How about you learn to use birth control.”
For Abortion to be your number one voting issue? How can you observe the country falling apart and that be the only thing on your mind?

So you have Republicans allowing the toad to get boiled alive with the slow deterioration of our laws. Or you hope nothings been screwed up too much and jack that burner up and hoping the toad jumps out aka too fast too quickly and that stops everything. I think the second method has already occurred which is why lawfare is starting to be used.
