You can't really compare them, but it will officially be the statistic despite rules changes that helped her beat it.
Everyone focuses on the 3 point line not existing in Pistol's time in school, but another major deal against him was the lack of a shot clock. This meant teams could simply run much of the clock down, and it now sits at 30 seconds limit for a possession. Even after that, the shot clock would fully reset after a foul, and was changed to now partially reset. Same in the NBA. This is the argument against LeBron at times because most of the decisions made for changes in the league have heavily favored offensive play.
Clark is an amazing player, and I'd much rather someone like her, a great all-time player, "breaking" Pete's record than some mediocre player that was gifted 6 years of eligibility to try and break the record.

This is wrong. The NBA defense rule change associated with the zone made it more difficult to score.
