That's our family. Grandparents were brought up in German speaking households, German newspapers, etc. WW1 changed that and German-Americans gave up their culture and became "American" because they didn't want to be traitors and be seen as supporting the Kaiser. Some even changed their last names.
I kind of wish I had my German culture back. I've been trying to learn to speak German and my kids as well. We make traditional German foods, etc. as well.
