ChemE here. Got my PE 12 years after graduating. The process made me a better technical engineer and filled in a few gaps from undergraduate work. Among my peers it was a distinguishing feature.
I also got my MBA, but that was before any Tom, Dick, and Harry could get one in a few semesters. I value my MBA more than my PE, but only because it gave me the confidence to invest in unconventional ways. That has been worth millions.
Bottom line: YMMV, but it can't hurt you.
