The battle that took place between the Bush clan and Ken Paxton has led to this strong stance by Abbott. Without Ken winning prior to this clash between the state of Texas and the federal government I believe Abbott would have bent the knee to the feds.

After being a decent but hedging governor for a while, Abbott has (just a note that I cycled through several phrases here that wouldn't have been appropriate
) become the man for the moment.
