Tomball TX (north of Houston)
Likes:
I love my house and neighborhood. Good people all around.
Houston has so many LA transplants that I can get any Cajun food or ingredients that I need pretty easily.
Job opportunities here are really good.
The mild weather in the fall and winter allows lots of time outdoors.
Dislikes:
I miss my LA family and friends. My parents are getting older (late 70s) and I know my time with them is getting short. I try to make it back to visit more but I fricking HATE that drive. I've been here over 20 years and I'd love to never travel that section of I-10 again.
It's a big concrete skillet. Flat, over populated, and boring for the kinds of outdoor stuff I like to do. All of my hobbies are best done otherwhere. (kayak fishing, mountain biking)
Traffic here sucks all the arse.
Last summer, also known as the devil's a-hole, has me questioning my ability to stay here and deal with this miserable humidity and heat.
I am glad to be here, but will not retire here. The wife and I are talking about either South Carolina, Arkansas, or TX hill country. Someplace with clear water rivers and streams and elevation changes.
