I have PetSafe Stay&Play Wireless Fence for Stubborn Dogs for my current dog-female Redbone Coonhound.Raised her in the house and walked her around on a leash to teach her the boundaries.It has worked great for her,if I forget to put it on in the morning she still stays in her boundaries.

I had another dog,female Lab mix and I had the in-ground wire system,didn’t work so well.When she wanted to leave the yard she would take off running,hunch up and take the shock.When she came back she would sit outside the yard and wait for me to come take off the collar before she would come back in.

I think it depends on the dog.

You would definitely have to keep him in a pen or on a chain and walk him around on a leash to try and train him to his boundaries.Can’t just put the collar on him and turn him loose.
