The problem with shipping liquor; first and foremost, is that it’s illegal unless you have the appropriate permits. You run the risk of the package being seized and could be subject to a fine. If you do decide to ship, use UPS or FedEx. Using the USPS is technically a federal offense.
From a more practical standpoint, bourbon bottles are not of uniform size or shape like wine or beer bottles. This makes finding a shipping container for them extremely difficult/impossible.
Personally, I would buy a cheap piece of luggage in Louisville and some bubble wrap. Wrap the bottles and layer in some clothes for extra cushion.
Check the luggage containing the bottles on your flight back home.
