all other tax money not previously earmarked goes into the parish general fund.

And I agree.
Legally, BR CAN sue to block based on “disparate impact” since that is part of the incorporation law, but I don’t think they will get a lot of sympathy if they win.
“We can’t afford our city if we don’t tax a bunch of people we don’t provide services for” doesnt play well in public.

BR would lose funding and have to cut from other public services in order to maintain what they're currently doing. Even if those services don't affect the St. George limits, they would still have to make cuts.

This whole lawsuit is because the leadership ( ) of Baton Rouge doesn't want to lose it's cash cow. The BR attorney said that St. George doesn't have money set aside for a police department. What's going to change when they incorporate? The sheriff still has jurisdiction there. They are simply incorporating a portion of the parish, they aren't creating 100k people out of nowhere and adding them to the parish, those people are already there and under the jurisdiction of the sheriff's office. Why wouldn't the sheriff's department do the exact same thing as they are doing now?

You sort of do. This would not be good for the city of Baton Rouge, but that is their own fault. And I do no blame St. George for being pissed off and wanting out.

You do though. I'm not in st George and I want this to happen but I'm also expecting either my taxes going up after or shitty city services
