My neighbor played on the PGA Tour
I was decent in high school. I played a lot and took lessons from an early age. I could shoot in the 80's so after football my Junior year I tried out for the golf team. Saying I was out of my league is a major understatement. Dudes I actually started playing golf with from early grade school were now studs. I think all but 1 of the guys on the team went on to play golf in college. All of these dudes literally were prodigies that spent way more time golfing and practicing than I could imagine. That team and the next 2 were probably one of the strongest high school golf teams to play in the state for several years. One went on to LSU and became an All-American getting on the mini-tours after LSU, won a few times, then got on the PGA tour. He even won a PGA tournament and got into the Masters. He is pretty much regarded as the best player to ever come out of Monroe and at the end of the day that got him one PGA tour win. That is how strong the PGA tour is.
I also duck hunt down here on the Eastside of Houston and one of my hunting buddies is good friends with Shawn Stefini who plays out of Mont Belvieu. I think he played at Lamar and was on the PGA tour for a few years. We have played at his home course in Mont Belvieu a couple of times and watching how precise he is by literally dropping shots like darts on the fairway where the mere mortal golfer prays to just find the proper side of the fairway or not to go OB is literally what separates the best from the rest. With that being said, it takes an obscene amount talent coupled with unlimited resources and time just to be pretty well average on tour.
