Wouldn’t their appetite and movement also go up as well though? Hell I bet most guys on this page can remember being 14, always hungry and always moving, but could eat anything on earth and not gain weight. I can remember eating peanut butter sandwiches right before bed to gain weight
yes that’s what I recall and known from family members that age. Growing boys eat a TON! So definitely something off.

I like the advice to take it as an opportunity to get him on a healthy diet and exercise. If social, weightlifting and exercise got me in shape and feeling more confident. would help with his appetite too.

ETA - don’t know where you are but I’d get a family membership to a gym or club and bring him with you multiple times a week to play tennis/pickleball/hoops or workout.

Maybe, but not always.. speaking for myself, when i was about 14, i went from being short & fat to tall & skinny over the course of one summer, literally in like 3 months i grew to almost my present height of 6’2”… BUT what happened with me is i was so thrilled with the compliments and attention from girls that i also restricted my eating.. I guess subconsciously i was afraid to ever go back to being that fat kid… that was years ago, then i got into going to the gym and now in my 40s i love to eat and could probably stand to lose a lb or two…. My point is, everyone's diferent and this stuff about what the “typical” teenager does or doesnt do is irrelevant .
