I haven't been to a self checkout at any business that didn't have an attendant monitoring multiple checkout stations.

I personally prefer self checkout. Easy and quick when I have minimal items, but you also have options if you have a large amount of items. I absolutely hate getting stuck behind someone who decides to write a check last second, has 30 coupons or wants to argue over a 50 cent price difference.
