As far as basketball acumen, McMahon is by far and away better than Wade. We play good fundamental basketball. Wade doesn’t understand basic defensive concepts. We would have never made a deep run in the NCAA tournament with Wade. McMahon just doesn’t have the talent.

Ah yes, the good ol’ street ball nonsense.

That NEVER has any actual substance to back the allegations. As if Wade somehow just got a bunch of good players, rolled out the basketball, and got out of the way.

I would agree that the Achilles heel of Wade's teams were on the defensive end...until his final season when LSU was a top 5 defensive team nationally (#1 for much of the year). Wade's teams were also (except for his final season) elite offensive teams. That, again, doesn't just happen simply because you have good players. For being such a "great x's and o's" coach, McMahon's teams (especially this one) have been awful at holding on the the ball. Bottom 1/3 of the country in turnovers per possession both years to date.

The reality is Wade's success is not simply a result of having better players than everyone else. If it were, he would be getting trucked at McNeese right now. The guy could coach. Just because you may not understand the game of basketball at a detailed level (which most people don't) doesn't mean the x's and o's were deficient. On the flip side it still takes talent to make the x's and o's work. And McMahon hasn't had as much as Wade did at LSU.

Once you get to this level of coaching everybody understands the x's and o's. I can tell you that by game 6 or 7 of SEC play when a coach yells out for a set play during the action the opponent has a good idea of what's coming. The good coaches though, in addition to having good players, know how to adjust and counter on the fly as to what is going on. It's not like football and basketball where there are delays between each sequence of action. Basketball is a lot of perpetual motion where adjustments, on both sides of the ball, are constantly being made on the fly.
