Comments like this show the degree of misunderstanding of Saban and people like Saban. Money isn’t always their motivation. They live for football. They don’t just walk away.

Saban was upset when he had to go to the White House for a visit after winning the championship because He missed a week of recruiting.

Guys like Saban never say “I have enough”
They always want more.

He knows the landscape is perverted and Tuscaloosa is not a spot that will thrive in the current environment. He’s too old to Start over at another program so leaving coaching on a relatively high note makes sense.

He’ll still be involved in football though

Slidell you and I are the same guy. Saban is leaving at the right time as what else can he prove? He hasn’t lost the desire but he knows the deck isn’t stacked in his favor anymore. Just as he couldn’t control multimillionaire NFL players he can no longer control college football. The days of SEC bias for Bama is coming to an end. Under the table money is over. All cards on the table now. It’s good and bad. I do believe sensible rules will be developed to manage this NIL/transfer portal deal as if they aren’t it will ruin college football and that golden goose is too valuable to too many to choke. College football is going to come up with legal means to hold the athletes to some contractural standards and “salary caps” will be forth coming. Professional sports has these controls and college football will have to adopt that model.

Saban is all football all the time but the current climate isn’t favoring his desire to dominate. It’s going to be interesting to watch.
