I don't believe many Bama players will enter the portal unless they are already thinking about it hard. In these kinds of situations there is a tendency for humans to stick together. IMO Bama will not lose many players with this coaching change.

Not certain I agree. When the Pear was fired, almost everyone left, leaving us with essentially no roster.

LSU had a signing class of 13 when Saban left for Miami. Had the portal existed, it would have been awful

Gonna disagree here...

I think there's a couple guys who bleed Alabama Crimson, but the majority of the elite national guys came to play for Nick Saban. And those, especially the ones that hadn't gotten their turn as starters yet, are probably strongly considering their options.

And with LSU making major coaching moves on the defense (and a lot of open spots on the depth chart), I think it's going to bring a few our way.

This is completely naive

Saban has been at Bama as long as every player was old enough to know what Saban and Alabama college football was. All they know is Saban. At this point, Alabama has become Saban. The names are interchangeable. The vast majority of 20 somethings in all of college football fandom and players have absolutely know idea about anything prior to Nick Saban at Bama other than Bear Bryant. You do not lose a living legend and everything goes smooth or even slightly bumpy. This is going to be a rebuild. They are allowing the entire team unlimited release from contractual obligations. All 2024 recruits, all current players at campus except for 2024 kids who have gone to class. Every relationship those kids had at Bama will be wiped clean. Alabama is not a destination school without Saban. Saban was and is a beacon.
