BK’s buyout with LSU is only $2 million if he leaves. Sloan, as he is still technically the QB coach, likely would have none if he left for a promotion to OC at Michigan.
You are correct that the chances of BK leaving LSU are quite small, but they are greater than zero, and it would take the exact right set of circumstances to happen - the potential of a school coming off a national championship having a vacancy in a state where Kelly spent his first 16 seasons as a head coach, in the part of the country where he spent 30 years as a head coach, and so on and so on….
Michigan for its part might not feel Moore is ready to take the reins, so why not take a guy who is can step in for 3-5 years and win another title before passing the baton. And don’t think for a second that the thought of keeping the nations top qb prospect home while also striking a blow to the SEC wouldn’t be an added bonus.
Harbaugh hasn’t announced he’s leaving yet, but there is sure a whole lot of smoke. If he does leave, as I say, the chances ain’t zero that Kelly leaves.
