Yeah, they still need you right now during the transition or perhaps if it falls through, so they'll say whatever you want to hear so people don't start leaving right and left.

I didn't get laid off during either sale of my previous company, but some people did in both cases after it closed. In one case, a lot of people did. We went from 150 employees down to about 75-80 in our local office.
