Got out here late 4:45. 5 mins later had a spike in the plot. Something spooked him and he only stayed for a few mins. Waiting on a target deer
End hunt: They were moving good. Saw that spike at 4:50. A large bodied deer with nose to ground at 5:30 but never came in to food plot so i think buck. Then when i walked out after legal shooting time a doe in food plot confused at my flashlight lol

I shot at a doe around 5:15 in a food plot. Pretty sure I hit her but no blood to be found. She ran out of the field like she was wearing one, but the search was tough tonight. Going to look again in the morning. Only deer I saw today.
The doe I shot in December had no blood either. I happened to hear where that one crashed in a cutover and we found her the next morning. This one I never heard go down so who knows.

We’re you by any chance shooting Nosler Ballistic Tips or Hornady SST? I’ve had that happen with them.

I'm done except for youth weekend (next weekend). The last 3 hunts I've found new spots, ones I think make sense, but like they say, the deer pattern us. I could go out tomorrow, but I would save my luck to get the 14yo his first. Not that it works that way, but yeah. I gotta solve this post rut stuff. I think they're nocturnal, I'm not even hearing shots.

Well my afternoon hunt was ruined by the neighboring lease running hog dogs whooping and hollering just across the bottom from me. Gotta love it when people don’t abide by Weyerhaeuser lease bylaws. But what can you do.
Only two deer for the freezer this year. Mainly do yo a 6 week work trip.

No 150 grain Remington Core Lokt. I missed the doe. We could not find any sign of anything this morning. Did find a lot of buck sign in the area. Going to have to keep trying.

In what I assume was a 30-06 or 308 that bullet should have given you an exit wound and blood trail unless it was a long shot. Deer are curious creatures and don't always respond to being shot the way you expect them to.
Edit: deer are not that hard to kill and a "standard" cup and core bullet is all you need 99% of the time. Core Lok, Hornady Interlock, Speer HotCor or Sierra Game King all work, choose the one your rifle likes.
I caught downvotes for my comment about Ballstic Tip/SST bullets. I used them in the past and they are the only bullet that gave me DRT (dead right there) results. But they are fairly fragile be design and typically don't leave a leaky exit would. The result is if they're not DRT there isn't going to be a blood trail to follow.
Bonded bullets such as Nosler AccuBond or Hornady InterBond are great... but not needed 98% of the time. Same with Nosler Partitions (although that's what I load in my 270 Win.)

I'm going to sight my rifle in this afternoon to see if I've bumped my scope off over the past month. I sighted it in before the season and it shot true on my last deer. I've had plenty of success using those bullets over the years. I just messed up yesterday. The shot was between 80-100 yards out which is a tad further than what I've shot and killed recently.
My last deer at that range was a spike around 120 yards out that I dropped. But that was about 5 years ago. Everything I've killed recently has been 60 yards or less.

Did you have a chance to check if your scope was still zeroed?

Unfortunately, no I did not. A relative was hunting yesterday afternoon near where we sight our rifles in. It was best to not be shooting where they were sitting. I'm going to try for an extended lunch or early departure this week from work to sight in my rifle before the weekend.
