Needless to say he messaged me last night. Said it's finally happened and he has been worried about this for awhile. Said if the general public saw what he sees half of America wouldn't get on an airplane.
And yet we're stuck here at zero deaths per year.

I'm sure this wise friend of yours does all manner of risky shite without thinking twice.

With all due respect I'm going to trust my best friend far more over the opinion of an internet message board poster. I never said he doesn't fly, he does. But he's in the industry every day and there are definitely things he sees that concern him and other posters have also mentioned some of these same concerns.

Yes flying is still safer than driving but at the end of the day there are still two advantages to driving. Driving you are in control whereas flying you are completely out of control. Driving even if you're in a wreck you can survive it. If your plane goes down there's a very good chance you won't survive it. Hence what is supposed to be the higher standards. A plane crash is far more devastating than a car crash. Alaska Airlines was lucky no one was in that seat. If someone had been in that seat they would not be alive today.

Again I'll trust the opinion of my friend over some random person I've never met.
