There’s only 10 teams that wouldn’t trade seasons with us. And realistically less than that since none of them brought home a Heisman.

I think all of those teams would happily trade better success for the Heisman trophy.

The bottom line is this. 2023 will (or should) never be considered to be a "bad" season. But it will ALWAYS be a wasted opportunity from tremendous success. With even an average defense, LSU is likely in the CFP. And following the FSU game the LSU offense became as close to unstoppable any anyone could realistically expect. So much so it was genuinely a surprise when LSU didn't score on a possession. Even Alabama was helpless to stop LSU until a tipped pass and a dirty hit.

Burrow had an unbelievable 2019 season. One that will probably go down as the best in LSU (maybe college football) history. But Daniels was a close to a one man "cheat code" as we've seen in a long time. Yes, even compared to Cam Newton. He was able to destroy defensive game-plans on his own because even if a defense did everything as perfectly designed, Daniels could still gain 40 yards.

This LSU defense had one of, if not the LOWEST bar for "success" of any defense in the 130 year history of the program. Yet, they fell woefully short of that. As a result, 2023 will always be one of the biggest "what if" seasons in program history
