I have 400 Mbps speed but my old house had 1G. There is a noticeable difference if I am downloading large files.
I'm sure there is.

What I'm saying is, your computer won't download faster than the data comes to you. Someone has to send you those files.

No, as I said earlier in this thread. I've had the 300 forever. This machine won't handle that speed, much less the gig. You seem to be trying very hard to run your dicksucker without reading the thread.

What exactly was the point of this thread?

I got a computer hooked up and running my Christmas lights to music show outside from the early 2000s running 32 bit Win XP on 2.5 gig EPB service. No one cares…..

IIRC Amazon web services can send data at 12GB/s

Yet you told someone earlier that their speed of 500Mpbs was faster than what most sites can send data

MOST...did I say all?

So, you have GIG25...Amazon is sending at 12 gigs...

Guess what.

Stop.

If you are talking about a single user just websurfing, then yes anything over 25-50 Mbps is overkill.

However for a family, that has 2 adults WFH with VPN connections to their office server getting a 500Mbps or even gig would help transferring files to and from the office servers.

Add on multiple kids streaming or gaming at the same time and the bandwidth gets eaten up, even if each device can't do more than 100 Mbps.

That means my bandwidth will not be limited when I am downloading torrents at 12 gigs, while streaming your wife's OF, jamming Pandora, and watching all of my security cameras live at the same time.

You keep leaving bandwidth out of your equation. I don't think you fully grasp that it isn't just about data to one machine at a time.

Yeah, this has been a funny thread to read.

Most websites (network backbones) are on 10+ GB NICs. Some are even on 25-100 GBs ...

But this guy who probably doesn't know what DNS, BGP, VPN, CIDR, etc even means ... is making some really funny claims based on his old computer and 100 MBs NIC ...

He thinks it's just speed to one machine at a time. He does not understand bandwidth at all.

But you did when you told someone that 500Mbps was more than what a site could send through the "pipe" to them at a time.

No one GAF about your crappy old machine but we are all trying to point out your lack of understanding about speed and bandwidth so you don't look stupid again in the future. Consider this a moment to learn.

Because you literally said that most sites can't even feed data faster than Joshjrn's speed.

Here is what you said...

1. lol at your comment
2. You still don't understand bandwidth

I'm am talking about one old machine, dimwit. Not 47 hidden cams to watch the wife frick the neighbor, or 9 gaming computers for the neighbor's kids your wife spit out her arse. I don't have all that running.

This old machine and a TV. I was talking about this old computer. Not, "I've got 97 security cameras running".

You can't download anything faster than you are receiving it. Most sites don't have the gig output of Amazon. A lot are like this antiquated site.
