Tell me when you think it ended.
If it ended, it was sometime towards the end of Raymond’s tenure.
I noticed you didn’t answer. When did “DBU” start?
quote:
I'm not the only one who thinks Raymond was the godfather of DBU. It was a popular opinion nationwide for many years. Google "Corey Raymond DBU" and see how many articles refer to him as the godfather/architect of DBU.
So there are a bunch of people just as dumb as you on the internet. How is this news?
More importantly, you still didn’t answer. When did “DBU” start?
quote:
I remember tv announcers referring to LSU as DBU regularly almost a decade after Cooper left.
It’s curious, you seem to have a difficult time talking about when tv announcers started saying “DBU”. Why is that?

I think people forget his time at LSU and because he left make it out that he sucked.
He got the following players drafted almost entirely under his development by draft year.
I started at 2015 since I wouldn’t give him as much credit for Mathieu and Simon ok the 2012 team.
2015: Jalen Collins (2nd round)
2016: Rashard Robinson (4th), Jalen Mills (7th round)
2017: Jamaal Adams (top 6), Tre White (1st)
2018: Donte Jackson (2nd)
2019: Greedy Williams (2nd)
2020: Kristian Fulton (2nd)
2022: Stingley (Top 3), Flott (3rd)
That’s not at as bad as most of you made it out to be.
2015: 65
2016: 23
2017: 21
2018: 38
2019: 59
2020: 127 (of 127)
2022: 81

21 and 22 were atrocious. DBs literally didn't know where to be. Stingley and Flott did well in spite of that. It was bad man. Did you block those years out?
We had bad DCs. Raymond didn’t forget how to coach. Raymond + competent DC is a great thing to have.

You probably just heard some other dumbass say that and repeated it
Am I supposed to write an essay about why my opinion matters? I remember him coming in second a lot for big-time recruits his final years (Surtain being one) and our DB play not being great around that time. Aranda pushing for Bush to be hired wasn’t a great look. And the absolute garbage that was the last two years. I mean, if you blame Steeples partially for the mess we’ve had, why wouldn’t Raymond get some credit for 2020 and 2021.

Link me any online article or thread claiming RC as the architect of DBU and I'll link you 3 that claim CR. So I guess everyone on the Internet including me is wrong and you are right. Jeez open your eyes guy.
But that's not even the point of this thread. The point is that CR was a great coach here and I think he would be a great hire now. Even if DBU started with RC, CR sustained it for a long time and is more widely regarded as the godfather/architect of DBU whether or not you agree with it.

The internet having infinite hordes of morons like you doesn’t explain why you still can’t answer an incredibly simple question:
When did “DBU” start, exactly?

And you get offended when I point out your stupidity

On this board, CR is taking the blame for all DBs and also being criticized for not being able to coach all of the DBs at the same time. Cool cool cool. Makes sense. I guess we blame him for the whole defense. It’s definitely CR’s fault we had shitty DCs for those two years.

Speaking of Hookfin, Webster, and Saban... wonder if Harbison wants to come back to LSU as a DC this time?
quote:nope. But it is more relevant to the question than how high his draft picks were. DBs do have a role to play in pass defense.... somewhat.

DBU started when people started referring to LSU as DBU. Who's the godfather or architect is debatable. Most people consider that person to be Corey Raymond. But there is an argument for Ron Cooper as well. You keep calling me an idiot for stating facts that don't align with your opinion. I'm not offended I just disagree with you.
Posted on 1/3/24 at 7:48 pm to Geauxgurt
This board is full of morons who say that when it was not his fault the Defense was awful. He still recruited.

Corey Raymond got caught up in coach Ogres pussy chasing after the natty!! Raymond is a good coach, and a hell of a recruiter. Him paired up with Frank Wilson again and the state is on lock down!!!
I’d gladly take a CR db unit over what I’ve seen the last 2years!!

You mean like this?
It’s alarming how good John Chavis had it defensively during the 2011 season at national runner-up and SEC champ LSU. There were four early-round draft picks starting in the secondary, personnel that only strengthened the Tigers’ rep as ‘DBU’ in college football.

No, it’s not.

Most stupid people, sure.

If by an argument you mean the fact that he is, then sure.

Because you’re an idiot.

Cooper is a better DB coach
Raymond a better off campus recruiter (i believe coop was the quintessential “hates recruiting but is a killer camp eval guy”) coach

Like I said, for every article that you link claiming Ron Cooper/DBU I can show you 3 others claiming Corey Raymond. You obviously don't understand fact vs. opinion. Your opinion is that Ron Cooper is the godfather of DBU. However the fact is that many others including myself think it's Corey Raymond.

It would really go back to the Saban era
DBU doesn’t happen without Corey Webster, Travis Daniels, Randall Gay, LaRon Landry, Chevis Jackson, Jonathan Zenon etc

You links are to stupid people like yourself making an incorrect claim in recent years.
My link is to an article from 10 years ago talking about how the 2011 lsu secondary strengthened LSU’s rep as DBU.
Your last comment stated “DBU” started whenever people started referring to it as such.
Do you understand what all that means yet? Or do you need a picture drawn for you?

Good point and I agree. We had a long run of elite DB's. Far more than any other school. I think CR was the leader of DBU for the longest time by far. But apparently anyone who says anything other that Ron Cooper is the godfather of DBU is an idiot according to Open Your Eyes.

You’re an idiot for multiple reasons.
For thinking Raymond is the godfather of “dbu”
For thinking that someone being in a position for the longest tenure while also admitting he did not start the position somehow qualifies him to be the architect or something.
For thinking florida fanboying about their new coaching hire somehow helps prove your point. Speaking of that, how did Florida’s secondary do this year with your “godfather of dbu” at the helm?

Give me your crayons. Need to make sure I can dumb it down enough for you, since you’re clearly not capable of understanding how timelines work.
