this guy said he drank and smoked pot after he left the scene, frankly I think that's plausible.

I have a hard time believing most of what has been posted in this thread. Frankly I don't think we have even half of the real story yet.

I can believe it. I was involved in an accident in which a mother and her baby were killed. The woman was at fault because she ran a stop sign. Her neighbor was following behind her because he needed to go to the store. Her neighbor was a liar. He told the state police that I ran the stop sign. The truck driver kept telling the idiot state trooper that the woman ran the stop sign. Idiot cop said he already had a witness, her neighbor. The night of the woman's wake the state trooper goes to the funeral home and tells the family that the woman caused the accident. I was in a coma for six months and they thought that I would not make it. That wreck changed my life for good.
