If the offense is backed up on their end of the field and and RB goes on a run around the corner has the ball punched out about the 2 yard line and the ball rolls into the endzone and out of the side or back of end zone I guess you are ok with giving the offense the ball back at the point of the fumble?
If an offense is down to the goal line, it's mostly because they got themselves there. Why should there be a weirdly asymmetric penalty for a fumble?
When an offense is pinned back on their own goal line, that largely because the D put them there. Why wouldn't the D be rewarded for consummating such?

Punts inside the 5 puts an offense at the goal line.
