No. Most years there are two or 3. This is an unusual year.
The average point differential in 14 years of CFP semifinal games is 22.
So going to 12 is ridiculous. It’s all about the money.

Who wouldn’t have been excited to see the 3 loss SEC champ Rohan Davey & Josh Reed in the playoffs in 2001? We would have gotten a bye in the current format.
