Slave states wanted to preserve and extend slavery and it was non-negotiable.

The Confederate Constitution allowed for States to outlaw slavery.

The North wanted States admitted to the Union to be free States because they felt that would give the upper hand in Congress, the South wanted States to be able to hold slaves if that was what they chose because they felt more slave States would give them power in Congress.

eta: to understand the nuances of the War for Southern Independence, you must understand the cultural differences between the North and the South and how it has been there since before the American War for Independence.

The North threatened to secede several times before the South did, and not once was it for slavery. It was always for money and power.

I do.

And every point you make still points back to slavery being the point of contention.

Once again I’m not demonizing the south and praising the north. It just is what it is.

ETA: a lot of people sound like RINOs in the truest sense in this thread.
