Last year, I looked at the "Washed up Schmuck" Urban Meyer who had a 4 loss season after a national championship and thought, this guy is not as good as everyone has conjectured.

But it is 2008 and Florida is heading to the MNC for the second time in three years. Could it be that this time next year, Les could make a UM-like turnaround. I think we will be as good or better at every position next year. (except maybe punt returner or place-kicker)I think we can have a big turnaround.

What say you?

I think it's possible--but to make it to the big dance you HAVE TO HAVE A GOOD DEFENSE.

A Heisman QB might help too.

obviously the DC hire is critical. I think he can with the talent returning and hopefully the trial by fire QBs this year + RS will shore up one of the big weaknesses from this year's team. you could see a 3 possibly 4 game swing in W's and L's.

and that was with the Heismann trophy winner at QB. i think we can all agree our QB play was not quite as high.

No Kidding. I never knew how important it was to have a quality quarterback. I always believed in Matt Flynn, but I had no idea how good he was as a game manager and stabillizing force. When Pick-Sixes are flying off the shelves, it just demoralizes the whole team. The team can't find rhythm and gain traction.

Next year, I think the talk won't be hatch of lee. It will Jefferson or Shepherd.

I think that with a better quarterback and a new DC, we turn this thing around and quick.

I hope and expect that our defense will be better in '09, but I'd be pretty surprised if we were in the nation's top 5 next season. Top 15 or 20 would be progress. Also, I expect we're still gonna have QB issues next year. I expect Jefferson or Lee to be better in '09, but not among the elite of SEC QBs: if either one of these guys ranked 3rd or 4th among SEC QBs, I think that would be excellent progress. I think we'll go 8-4 or 9-3 season next year.

I don't know about a national championship type turn around, but all things are possible. We bring in a top notch DC to shore up the defense...big upgrade there. QB play from Shep or JJ - should be an upgrade there.

We could certainly expect a 9-3 season with just some of the upgrades listed above - with a little luck and some bounces and plays to go our way lke in 07 - who knows what could happen.

W should be 4-0 going into GA - if Stafford leaves that makes that game more interesting and we could win it. Then FLA at home - that will certainly be a big test - especially if Tebow stays - which I would think he would. Then our next tests would be ALA - OLE MISS - ARK. Anything is possible.

They went 8-4 with a Heisman QB

We went 7-5 with our 3rd/4th string QB's

Maybe I'm a cup half-full kinda guy, but I kinda dont mind our situation relative to comparison.
