We aren't all that free.
Maybe we were never as free as the propaganda told us we were for several decades, but we believed it.

And when did our freedom start to decline? When lots of people said 'There oughtta be a law!'
But most of those 'The govt oughtta do something!' types were not allowed to vote. Then the 19th amendment was passed.
