Spend the holidays with family, friends, coworkers. Do not sit at home alone with a dog or a cat. You will feel even worse and depressed.

Totally understand. We buried my father in law yesterday, which happened to be the five year anniversary of my mother’s death. Currently sitting at the airport waiting to fly out for the funeral of my best friend’s mom. I’m choosing to focus on the great memories I have of all those I mentioned. Best of luck to you and your mom. Wishing for you to find a way to lift the spirits of you and yours.

Mom was just diagnosed with stomach cancer. We don’t get along. She was a great mom for a kid (roller coasters, skating, pulling you behind the bumper of her car on skates). She never transitioned to thinking of me as an adult, owning a home, being married. We are reconciling. Best wishes to you.

Also, we try to leave donuts etc. for the staff to show we appreciate them. These folks are the forgotten heros. Im serious. Take care of them.
Not all of them are heroes. That's the problem. Many of the aids are there for a paycheck and to do the minimum. I have a cousin who was in the nursing home for about a year before he transitioned into the assisted living section. He finds some of the workers are receptive to him and gives them little tips here and there. That goes a long way for him to get better care.

A friend's mother went into Riverside Hospital for short term rehab in Alexandria. I don't know if that's where you are. She said it wasn't a very old facility and was very nice. They didn't want her in a nursing home at the time. They were pleased with the people there. I don't know anything about insurance coverage for it, but you might want to investigate if that's a convenient location.

Is your Mom doing better? Hope things have improved for your family.
