This narrative is so 2021. Turner is the center for a line that’s a finalist for the Joe Moore award. He was the Outland Trophy National Player of the week and later the SEC lineman of the week this season. Several have talked about him as under the radar guy that will get drafted. If he comes back, our oline should be the best in the country.

Turner has improved over the last season and other than the Bama game, he was very consistent at keeping the OL organized and getting protections set. That said, even with the added weight and muscle, Turner is still a little undersized and isn’t a great blocker. He’s good and is no longer a weakness, but not great or a strength.

As much as Denbrock’s offense relies on pounding the middle in the run game, we could really use a better blocker in that spot who can consistently take on doubles or push a single DL back to open a hole. Against SEC competition, Turner can hold his ground. But he’s not able to push most SEC starting DTs around.

Chester certainly has the measurables to be a stronger and more physical blocker and has looked solid when called upon. Hopefully he’s ready to step in if Turner leaves. If the staff does target a C in the portal, that would indicate they don’t think he’s quite ready to be the starter.

Personally, I think Turner will move on and Chester will take that job, but that’s just a guess. We’ll see.

We should all agree we need better than Turner.

Next year we need a running game other than the QB. We need some road graders...

I agree simply because I don’t think Turner can increase his stock much if at all. Maybe a little but with Chester waiting in the wings, I think Chester would end up taking that center spot no matter if he stays or goes. With more offseason training and more specific training at the center position for Chester, he’s just too darn good not to take it over.

We will have a different OL next year. A lot of the HS recruits from the last two or three years will be moving into the starting roles. We have some big arse dudes who could have played this year on raw talent. Chester and of course Heard but also Lunsford and Bordelon. I just think those 4 guys will play a key role in the OL with Emery / Campbell moving forward. They almost cracked the starting lineup this year.

I agree that they need to work on the run blocking as an OL but I also think adding some of these guys will automatically have a pretty big impact on how they perform in that area. Not only that but our RB talent will get better as well. When we had Diggs, Jackson or Williams running the ball, they found some big holes to run through. I think those three guys are the best at finding the holes to run through. Holly could also be one of those, I just haven’t seen enough of him to know. He looks damn good as well. Then we have the new guys coming in.

I know this, the 2024 and 2025 offensive class will have some of the best elite skill players in the country in it. If we can get Bryce Underwood in the class with them, this is going to be one helluva offensive class coming together. All we need now is to get these defensive assistant hires right, go load up on defense and we’ll be set up very nicely to make the playoffs in the future. It’s setting up nicely. Gotta finish strong! Let’s get it done BK!
