I guess it’s a good thing he’s not signing this year.
Saban will always have a lot to sell. However, what kind of history of QB development does Tommy Rees have beyond half a season with Milroe? There’s not a lot he can point back to in his time at ND in terms of offensive system or QB development. Bama had that over everyone with Kiffin and Sark. BOB could at least sell his NFL credentials, but Rees isn’t a heavy hitter when put up against the top offenses in college football.
Denbrock and Sloan have the current Heisman trophy winner who made remarkable strides this season. Denbrock can also point back to taking Desmond Ridder from a raw, unheralded 3 star athlete to an NFL QB. The offense at LSU has been as good or better than Bama with less talent across the board for two years straight. There’s absolutely no comparison between the two this season.
I get the negativity and what Saban can sell. But we wouldn’t be in it and supposedly the front runner to get Underwood’s commitment if we weren’t offering up big boy NIL numbers. We currently have the better offensive system and staff. Offensive recruiting is already strong and set to explode in 25 if he commits.
The top 2 or 3 QBs in a class like Underwood are usually more interested in who can get them ready to start day one in the NFL than anything else. They are going to get big money just by virtue of the position they play, so they don’t have to worry about the bag game. I’m sure competing for titles matters, but USC and UT are pulling guys right now based on offensive system and the staff’s history of development. The same could also be said for Texas before they finally broke through this season. LSU absolutely has that to sell today, as well.

That’s not the point I’m making. Why now, when he’s never expressed interest and never discussed the possibility of a visit. It’s last minute and Underwood is committing in a few weeks. Why did it suddenly become appealing to take a visit. I just know personally what Saban will stoop to in order to gain an edge.
