we’re generally on the same page about the state of american soccer, but I fervently disagree with this point. I don’t think you’re fully appreciating how much of a turn off this is for 99% of people who may want to dip their toes into the sport. the impression is anyone who attends a domestic match is a radical, and I mean radical left winger. but the only ones who are, are the ones waving the stupid fricking flags.

it’s quite literally the equivalent(practically, not morally) to a Lazio style section of like 5 dudes waving Nazi regalia and anyone left of center saying “well that’s enough for me to avoid this scene”.

not to hijack the thread, but I think people drastically underestimate how much of a turnoff it is that radical leftists essentially control the stands at American soccer matches. carry on

A rainbow flag and a Nazi flag are two completely different things.

One represents genocide, the other represents a weird counter culture movement.

Regardless, the sports fans that are saying that they are turned off of soccer because they saw a rainbow flag, need to turn off the NBA and NFL too then. It's a total copout to say the flags are the reason they won't watch soccer.

And I think you overestimate it. I would argue most fans who get interested in soccer aren’t aware of this until they actually attend a match (or start watching regularly on tv), and even then this segment of fans flying these is most prevalent in places like Portland and Seattle. The casual fan who attends an MLS game is probably only bothered if the flag obstructs their view. Honestly if you see a few gay flags and think everyone in the crowd is a radical you’re probably too retarded to appreciate soccer anyway.
