I had a root canal in HS due to an exposed nerve. The only thing that stopped the pain was putting a piece of ice in my mouth directly on the tooth.
I've also heard ice could have the opposite effect, so best of luck.

For me, I have found that anything too cold causes a sharp pain. I've also found that anything hot does the same thing as well. So ...
