why would Ben Johnson or someone of his caliber pick New Orleans over LA?

Chargers have no fan base.
Owner is cheap and nobody wants to play for them (see Eli Manning).
Play in the same division as Kansas City and Denver, so not likely making playoffs anytime soon.
Herbert has a big arm, but isn’t a winner.
New Orleans is more attractive because we are exact opposite of all that and GM isn’t going anywhere, so you would have support of management.

This is a great job to have.

ETA, way less in income taxes.

Saints HC job
Negatives:
1. Oldest roster (many of our best players will be retiring and/or are declining).
2. No long term WB
3. Salary cap restrictions
4. GM who is so aggressive in the draft that he loses most trades.
5. Winnable division but winning in playoffs will be hard bc teams are going to be more talented most of the time.

Positives:
1. Best young QB’s are in the AFC
2. Non-meddling owner
3. GM team that is above average in drafting but has notable whiffs due to over aggressive approach
4. Weak division

I guess it depends on what someone is looking for.
