"If it comes from a great place [where] they just wanna see me do better, thank you. If it comes from anywhere else, everyone is entitled to their opinion. Can't control that" -- Zion Williamson on Shaq and Charles Barkley's recent comments on his shape

Hope this is a wake up call for him. After dropping 36 points and winning the game , you can tell he looks kind of down from the criticism. Compared to being all giddey and happy and just shrugging it off.

Also from CJ:

quote:

"They don't talk about players that aren't good... If he was just another guy, no one would really care... Its about understanding what he wants to accomplish... Hes headed in a good direction" -- CJ McCollum on recent media criticism of Zion Williamson

The fact that he isn't lashing out and acting like a baby over the criticism is a good sign imo. It means that on some level, he knows he was not performing at the level he is capable of, and that it's up to him to change.

I hope he and the team take what they were saying in a positive light. Those guys (Shaq, Barkley, etc) believe he'd be unstoppable if he was in shape and want him to be a star in the league.

He’s been criticized for the exact same things continuously the last few years and it’s led us… where?

Legit question, how many times have we said this about Zion? 4 or 5 now?

Maybe it is, but given all the other times we hoped for a wake up call, it's hard to have much confidence this is the time since all he other ones weren't the time.

We were also in that position just a few games after the team meeting supposedly was the wake up call too...it wasn't.

Let Zion give effort for 20 games and do so consistently, then we can start to believe. 1 game? Nahhhh, we've fallen for that too many times, and even just about 8 games ago we fell for it with the team meeting.

Hopefully this was his Varsity Blues moment when they went to the strip club.

Shaq & Chuck talking about what Zion needs to do to turn it around like they did.

Zion:

Edit: Baron, make it a thing.

They say what they say about him because he's wasting his talents. He is a power forward that could be young prime lebron if he took his conditioning and weight seriously.

JJ Redick had the best and most succinct line on Zion from all the commentary recently.

Folks talk a lot about Zion buying into the team, the players, the city, David Griff, etc.

The true issue is that Zion hasn't bought into Zion. He has to do that before anything else can happen.

Agree with this. The bar for Zion is so low now that one game of effort has everyone excited

We have a 5 year sample size of this guy’s work ethic. It’s gonna take a while before I can believe he’s figured anything out.
