Again, I was being taught about the lampshades and soap in school when I was a kid. I think it was in the late 80's that those particular myths were debunked, so maybe that's why you never heard of them.

As of the overall kill count, it was pretty big news when they replaced the '4.1 million' plaque at Auschwitz and changed it to 1 million. I don't see how you'd have missed that one.

I’m 38 and I’ve gone down some rabbit holes and haven’t heard about this. I also haven’t seen the number being reduced. Can you link it?
