We’re way behind? Let’s examine the 2019 LSU Tiger football team. Viewed by many to be the greatest college football team ever assembled.
Below is a list of 3 star players who became heavy contributors to that roster.
Lloyd Cushenberry, Clyde Edwards-Helaire, Saadhiq Charles, Patrick Queen, Justin Jefferson, Damien Lewis. Over a quarter of your starting 22 on that 2019 team were 3 stars.
Even more interesting…….below is a list of 4 star and higher players who did not contribute heavily to 2019’s success.
Todd Harris, Myles Brennan, Kelvin Joseph, Jarrell Cherry, Davin Cotton, Kenan Jones, Dantrieze Scott, Travez Moore, Mo Hampton, Devonta Lee, Ray Parker, Donte Starks, Kardell Thomas, Radar Jones.
Point being, LSU is still recruiting at as high a level or better than they did under Orgeron and sometimes, 4 and 5 stars aren’t the be all end all. On paper, at least according to the star gazers, 2019 shouldn’t have nearly been as good as they were.
LSU is bringing in plenty enough talent to be elite. The question, particularly on the defensive side of the ball, is how effectively can LSU develop its talent.
