He clearly seemed to do okay working at a grocery store.

Dude was probably bagging groceries and collecting carts.

Panera literally put an energy drink on tap where the caffeine dosage can't be controlled, like it is in a can.

You're implying he has zero sense of what he's doing, where he goes, or what he eats or drinks. If true, then how was he functioning to such an extent that he holds down a job and walks to Panera Bread regularly and regularly chooses a drink he wants until this particular drink when he is completely unable to identify what hes drinkinh.

I think it's possible for someone to collect carts while also not understanding how much caffeine they should consume.

You're saying ONLY in situations in which caffeine is involved, he loses his sense of understanding? Even after the article states he always avoided caffeine? He clearly has some idea of what caffeine is and what it does and he has a sense of understanding in terms of knowing what he's drinking.

I think he tried it, liked it, kept drinking it eventually succumbing the caffeine effects after it took full effect.

Of course he likely didn't know what 1000mg of caffeine in one day would do, very few people have consumed that much caffeine in a single day.
