About 2006 was the peak, with a gradual decline. The last 2 years it’s fell off a cliff.

I’ll go with 2006 Rose Bowl USC-Texas BCS title game as the ultimate high point of college football. Look at the BCS champs prior to that and their conference:

2005 Big 12
2004 PAC 12
2003 SEC / PAC 12
2002 Big 10
2001 Big East
2000 Big 12
1999 ACC
1998 SEC
1997 Big 10 / Big 12
1996 SEC
1995 Big 8

After 2005, it’s been sheer SEC domination.

This seems about right. I also thought 2007 and 2008 were fricking awesome. 2007 for the sheer craziness, and 2008 for the amount of great teams that year.
