My parents church wanted an update so they looked up the costs to have the pews re-upholstered. It was actually cheaper for them to buy brand new pews for the whole church instead of the labor to recondition the old ones. The old fabric was stapled AND glued down, and the finish needed a nuclear bomb to help remove it.
They ended up selling the old pews to anyone who wanted one. It was a nostalgia thing. Problem is who could fit a 30’ long bench in their house.
