That would easily be the least sexy, most disappointing, least amount of splash choice we could make. I'm sure it will happen.

it'd be a a huge gamble for Les to put his career on the line for a guy who has never been anything more than a position coach. That would also pave the way for both peveto and mallory to keep their jobs. bad situation all around

Maybe he can call a great D, but he hasn't done so in his career

I like Dunbar as a position coach more than O but I'm not sold on d-cord.

This will be the direction Miles goes if Peveto doesn't get the HC gig at NSU. He doesn't want to have to fire his buddies. Hiring Dunbar would satisfy the requirement that he bring in a new DC from outside, and Mallory and Peveto could simply go back to their old jobs as position coaches. LSU currently has their full compliment of coaches, so who gets canned in order to make room for Dunbar? Lane maybe?

What happened to the 5 coaches being let go rumor

That rumor was hot for a week

It had to have some legs to it

Miles has to know we are playing with fire here in the arms race for the West SEC.

We can not play games. This is big boy football

Friends will get you fired

it is time for all new D staff IMO.

That was awful this year

Maybe it was just that...a rumor?

Sometimes I wonder if Miles truly understands how serious the situation is. It took him all season long to finally admit that there might be a coaching problem. Trust me, I remember how he was at Okie State. He will do anything in his power to avoid having to fire Mallory and Peveto. I agree that we need to clean house on the defensive side of the ball. What top DC would come here knowing he can't put his own people in place? If Mallory and Peveto stay, LSU will not get Chavis, Koenning, or any of the other high profile names we've heard thrown around.

If he brings in Dubar and keeps the two headed tard monster the bright side is that we'll get to entirely clean house in a year or two.

True....but he could do a lot of damage in that time span. This could be his defining hire. If he screws this up, I don't expect him to be here to start the 2010 season.

Karl is a good DL coach from what I understand. Calling the D is a lot harder than most fans realize. With all the no huddle and hurry-up O, it is hard to get the right call and package in the game. Catching the signals on the field looks like confusion when it is simply the D calls. It does take a lot of practice. It would be better to hire an experienced DC, but I do like the thought of supporting the LSU coaches. If he and O are about the same, hire the Tiger coach. LSU needs to encourage this practice. It has worked in reverse.

I would be fine with him a DL coach, but not the DC.

Same here. We need a proven DC. We can't afford any more on the job training.
