I’m a huge Hitchcock fan, but always felt ripped off by the end of The Birds.

That said, I haven’t seen it since I was a kid, so maybe I would like it better now.

On second thought, you’re probably right.

You could maybe understand the ending of them simply driving away if Hitchcock had given a little bit more of a hint as to why the Birds went nuts.

If the theme was simply, the horror of the fact that birds (or other natural phenomena) simply just act strange sometimes and life is unpredictable, then why focus so much on Tippi Hedren and those two love birds in the cage at the start of the movie?

It feels like nitpicking for this outstanding classic and unique horror film, but I think I agree, it could have been a little better.
