quote:Kelly already did this at Notre Dame. After Elko left (after only one year Jimbo came calling with huge money), he promoted Clark Lea to DC. Lea had been a LB coach for 10 years prior and was a LB coach for one year at ND before he was promoted. He took the 31st ranked scoring defense and finished 13th, 12th, and 14th in the country in scoring the next 3 years. He took the #46 ranked total defense and finished 30th, 18th, and 25th the next 3 years.
It's amazing to me people on this site think LSU should be the place for a DC to get his first shot.
Unlike you guys, I wouldn't be opposed at getting Robinson as a first time DC. When Orgeron allowed Daronte Jones to run his defense (after what Lane Kiffin said to him), we improved greatly in the final games of the regular season.
We gave up 20, 16, 14, and 24 points the last 4 games.
Rush defense
We gave up 6 yards and 1 TD vs Bama
141 yards 3.53 ypc and 0 TDs vs Arkansas
118 yards 3.1 ypc and 0 TDs vs ULM
54 yards 1.2 ypc and 0 TDs vs TAMU
Even the pass defense improved averaged out compared two the prior 2 months.
If Robinson can bring over the DL talent, all we need is a decent DB coach and we'll be in business.
