re: Seeing a lot of "mental health" posts here and in the news in general

I deal with anxiety and depression but guess what...life goes on and the world does not care. Deal with it and keep your life moving. I will never understand people who are crippled with anxiety and so feeble and weak that they can't handle basic life matters like speaking to another human and looking them in the eye.
I for the most part agree with this. I struggle with anxiety and occasional depression, especially in winter, and it is worse now with some sleep deprivation and work stress.
I allow myself to be upset for a bit, then I finally say to myself, “frick all that, time to get up and bitch slap life”.
But for all these teen and college kids that can’t deal with anything, whooo boy, they have some tough sledding ahead — it damn sure doesn’t get easier in life.

So isn’t it a good thing that they’re seemingly seeking help early on?
My 20’s were a straight up bloodbath of suffering and setbacks, foring me to completely reboot my life at 28. If I had gotten the therapy I needed as a teen instead of at 30, I probably could’ve avoided a LOT of unnecessary suffering and struggles.

I wish my shite had been that easy. I tried to keep it that easy, but it never worked.
As mentioned, there are so many degrees of anxiety and depression that it's impossible to make apples to apples comparisons using anecdotal experiences. My shite was a nightmare, but I know damn well people have it much worse than I ever did. That's a terrifying thought and I hope those folks are able to find the appropriate treatment.

In my case, it wasn't simply having the occasional blues/worry or just not really feeling up to doing anything. My body & mind had gotten into a state of almost always being in a panic attack due to anxiety. I would have cold sweats, pounding heart, overwhelming feelings of dread, and almost feeling like I could die at any moment. I couldn't sleep as a result, and lack of sleep only adds to anxiety. It starts to feed on itself and not something I'd wish on my worst enemy.
I guarantee that most of the "what's wrong with you? just suck it up" crowd have never experienced true clinical anxiety with physical symptoms. It's very hard to fully comprehend until you experience it first hand.
