so last night I put a small strip of duct tape around those cracked openings underneath the drip pain and there was no drip marks this morning.

I might be on to something. my thought is that it is condensation and the tape is blocking the warm and cold air from meeting.

I need to reapply the tape better to allow the pan to fit better.
